- Author in Introduction
Fundi Mwamba is a horror filmmaker from Lubumbashi, an industrial city founded as a mining colony by the Belgians. The choice of horror film creates opportunities to metaphorically address a number of issues that are difficult to discuss; in film, 'anything goes', and this is especially true of a niche genre like horror. In his work, he endeavours to show the world Congolese culture, both ancestral and contemporary, by evoking political issues such as the exploitation of natural resources. He co-wrote Télé Réalité with Glodie Mubikay and Lucile Desamory, exploring the concept of ethnographic surrealism applied to pagan rituals in Belgium. Télé Réalité had its world premiere during the 70th Berlin International Film Festival in 2020. Since 2022, he is the founder of the Biasasa cultural centre, which initiates training for filmmakers and actors and provides a platform for filmmakers, writers, rappers, etc.
